Contax RTS 35mm
The Contax RTS marks the first collaborative product between Yashica and Zeiss, after a period of quite significant decline for the brand. The Contax brand had been in steady decline for some time, and as more electronically capable systems became the norm for professional users, Contax no longer had a competitive product. The brand name was then licensed to Yashica, to be later known as Kyocera, who had become renowned for their advancements in electronic systems development. The camera was introduced after years of development in 1975, the body of which having been designed by the freshly launched Porsche Design Group; the brainchild of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, original designer of the iconic Porsche 911.
The camera itself featured a new type of electronic release button, for the 2000th of a second titanium horizontal shutter. A material which Contax would go on to use much more in further more notable models. Arguably the biggest feature of the RTS was their partnership with Zeiss, offering T* lenses on all bodies. These lenses were a big success among photographers, who knew and trusted the glass; probably the single most important element of a camera of this time.
