CONTAX T2

Regular price

The Contax T2 first emerged around 1990 in Japan, the home of Kyocera; Contax’s then parent company. The camera was a significant step up from the original Contax T, a collaborative Porsche Design from 1984, offering a more user friendly experience to cater for a significantly growing premium snapshot market. While the Contax T of the previous decade has been confirmed to be a Porsche Design project, it is yet to be confirmed that the entire T series was designed by them, though many believe it to be the case. The entire titanium range of T cameras from 1984 stretching into the early 2000s follow the same design language set by Porsche, with case filleting sharing more of a relationship with modern day Apple design, than anything of the era.

The T2, like all other Contax cameras had a multi-coated T* Carl Zeiss lens with advanced Japanese electronics of the same relative quality. This pairing would create a camera that had rapid response times in switching the camera on and off, but more importantly with shooting pictures. The powerful flash, large viewfinder and razor sharp optics made it even appeal to professional users, like Juergen Teller, Annie Leibovitz and Mario Testino; all of whom have been seen using Contax snapshots over the years. This combination of usability and iconic professional use has cemented the T2 as one of the all time great cameras, earning it a kind of cult status among both amateurs and professionals.
